Review: Craftsman ½ HP Belt Drive Garage Door Opener
Installation
I tried to install this thing, but my mechanical ineptitude left me high and dry when it came down to it. I paid a contractor I know to do it for me. It cost me $120 and it took him about two hours to do it.
How does it work?
This new opener is great! It’s virtually silent (okay, not quiet, but close enough), and it seems to do the job pretty well. I haven’t had it in long enough to know what its long-term performance is going to be like, but I doubt that it’s going to crap out on me any time soon.
What I like best about it is that it’s relatively nondescript- it doesn’t attract a ton of attention, and it isn’t loud and noisy either. It does its job without having to be a nuisance or be overly obvious that it’s even there.
Conclusion
I am very happy with this thing- everything was pretty simple, and even though I paid someone to install it for me I’m sure that it couldn’t be that hard. Everything came well packaged and was safe and secure.
My only real complaint is that the enhanced security features of this motor didn’t really make a lot of sense to me the first time around. It took me a bit before I realized how they worked. Once I got over that, however, it was no big deal.
Pros:
+ Not very loud.
+ Looks good.
+ Works well.
+ Everything’s included.
Cons:
+ None, really.
Overall: I’m very happy with this purchase, and I’m sure it will last a long time. Craftsman has a good reputation, and this looks to be a fine example of why.
